trigger pull
« on: March 30, 2007, 06:57:03 PM »
Help me here if you can.  SRH 44 mag.  Proper trigger  pull is using just the first pad of of your fore finger?  Is that correct?  I have always used my second pad and always been all over the place.  Just dry fired the SRH 60 or so times with just first pad and seemed weird at first, but after 20 or 30 pulls felt more natural than second pad.  Guess I'm just looking for validation that what I  just "discovered" is proper.  with using the first pad, my trigger finger is cocked at a 45.  guess that is what you want so as to pull straight back instead of jerking.  Any thoughts?  While I'm at it, 9,10,11 grains of Unique under 255 grain Cast Perf.  Anyone use any of these combos for deer.  I know what my books say but wondering about actual use. Thanks.
Bill
By the way, I can shoot 3/4  inch  off the bench with my scope but pattern  groups with open sights at 25.  The gun shoots, but the shooter doesn't.
Thanks

What type of shooting are you doing with Iron sights?  Bench or offhand or what?

Sounds like you have developed some bad habits, about shooting but, sounds like your on the right path now.  don't think you'll  get efficient velocities for hunting, with Unique powder? As for accuracy, practice, practice, practice!!!

Speer #13 Manual state that from a 71/2 inch revolver that 11 gr Unique gets slightly over 1200 fps. with a 250 Keith.
Better not let the 45 Colt boys know that 900 to a 1000 fps is not adequate "???" for deer.

900 fps with a 250 cast will kill any deer or blackbear on the planet.

I always use the pad at the end of my finger for autos.  I always use the joint of the first knuckle for revolvers.(especially for double action shooting)

You should also practice moving your first finger independently from the rest of your hand.  If your whole hand moves when you pull the trigger, you need to work on your independence.

I put in shooting trigger tips and came up with this article, I'm sure you can find more.

I like centering on the pad of the index finger…Agreed with S.B. on the practice, practice practice to include dryfiring.
You will learn to pressure up the trigger till it breaks without any additional movement of the trigger to the rear which may indicate that you are pulling it instead of applying pressure
