ny fishing trip, help!

as I'm sure you know the ny trout season opener was yesterday and my dad and I were going to plan a little over night trip somewhere to get into some back country trout next week, he's left the planning up to me. id love to here about some trips you guys would recommend, we're planning on staying over one maybe two nights and backpacking into this area(Adirondacks or Catskills probably) setting up camp n fishing in the middle of nowhere. so if anyone knows of a lake river trout stream or pond in the mountains please tell cuase im having trouble finding an area to do this is. help is very much appreciated thank you

p.s we will be leaving from Ticonderoga new york, and don't wish to travel more than 2 hours by car

Ummm, you may wish to look at Lake Desolation, which shouldn't be too far from Ticonderoga.  You can park in a public parking area and follow an Encon trail to the lake where, I believe, they may still have campgrounds and picnic tables.  Fishing should be good, but there be bear in the area and they like fish too.  HTH.  Mikey.

St. Regis Canoe Area - some great Brook Trout come out of that area - lots of ponds to choose from to depends on what ya want to fish for - Brookies,Brown Trout,Rainbows,Lakers,Splake and even Kookenee < spell check  :-\ all these ponds are on the same road - Floodwood pond road and there are some undeveloped DEC campsites along the road (permit required after 3 days)...

 not sure if ice is out up there yet ...

 Saranac Lake area....
