whittaker guns, who visits
« on: March 30, 2007, 02:56:16 AM »
A previous thread has peaked my interest a little.  Whittaker guns, to anyone who is local and loves the handi is like heaven.  I have realized maybe there are more members around me than I know.  Which of you guys visit Darrel and bask in the joy of all the handis, (used and new) and where do you come from?

I have been there several times. I get to Owensboro about every other month.
I look at the used guns and the Coopers. Nobody that I know of has an inventory of Coopers like Whittakers

It is the best gun store in KY as far as I am concerned.  Others are good and have similar quantities of handguns in stock, but if you are in the market for hunting rifles it is the best by far.  Handis and other single shots are there in abundance.  Prices are as low as you are going to see anywhere, usually lower, and sometimes much lower.  The posted price on their used guns are as maked, sales tax included.  You are also more likely to see guns from small manufactures, guns in rarer calibers, or odd firearms that fit niche markets there than anyplace I have ever been.

Perhaps best of all is the fact that all of their long guns are on racks open to the customers, not behind the counter.  This allows you to look at a lot more guns than you ever could if you had to bother a sales person everytime.  This also makes it a fun trip to go whether you buy anything or not.

I love the place.

With the prices what they are in the Nashville gun stores it is worth two or three getting together and going to see the big man. What price Darrel has on a gun there is no getting him down but it is usually a right one. He will trade fair with you. I wish you would be quite talking about the store for I am getting the itch for a little trip. Just kidding.

Sounds like a needed handi party.  Everyone go, buy a new handi and then ring em out at darryl's range down the road.  ALL I need is a reason!

I recently bought a rifle from Whittakers, the online transaction went perfect and the rifle arrived in just a week. I'd be more than happy to have them as a local shop and wish we had one, unfortunately, they're a little far away for me to browse their shop!! :'(
