7mm-08 Scope
« on: March 27, 2007, 04:17:54 AM »
This will be my whitetail rifle for shots in the 50-200yd range.
I'm not quiet enough to get closer or steady enough to shoot farther. ;D
I have used and like both scopes.
The 4x32 is quick and handi for walking. Always ready for the shot.
The 3-9x40 is nicer for sighting in and long shots but it always seems to be set on the wrong power.
The third option is to wait and not shoot my new toy until I can afford the 6x40 scope I have been wanting.

I felt that I could never go wrong with a 3x9.I just keep it on 3x all the time.If game is spotted at longer distances then I have time to adjust. My Dad,on the other hand, was a firm believer in a fixed 4x and at 100 yards, his 30-30 was no slouch because of the low power, often getting very small groups. In Army sniper school,in 67',I qualified at 1000 meters with a M-14 and a 2-1/2 power scope,so scope power really should not be an issue with young eyes but with old eyes, like mine today,oh brother! I'll take all the power I can.Seriously though,a good 4x will do it all.

Personally I'd go with a 2-7, even wider FOV for up close and all the magnification you'll need for the distance you say you'll be shooting. The 2-7 is one of my favorites. In case you're interested in a good one cheap I have a Bushnell  Legend 2-7 still NIB never mounted I'll part with for $100. It's between the Elite 3200 and Trophy in Bushnell's line up. I had plans but my health seems to not be cooperating so I'm gonna be moving a LOT of stuff in the next few weeks that I just don't think I'm gonna get around to using.

Tim aka Quickdtoo has bought the scope mentioned above. GB

2-7 might be a nice compromise.
I don't know anyone around here that has one.
That sounds like a very good deal but it's not in the budget for now.
Things are looking up though we just payed off the last credit card ;D.

All of my personal 7-08s (several) have always worn various 2-7s.

The 2-7x has my vote too, I have a bunch of em, it doesn't get any better for quick target acquisition for up close and personal brush hunting, yet you still have plenty of power for 300yd shooting on any big game animal. I leave mine set on 2x, most all of my deer and elk have been shot at 40yds to 120yds on 2x, never needed to change the power setting unless I needed to count points before the shot which hasn't been often. I've used 7x exactly twice that I can recollect in the last 25yrs or so, one of em was on a buck standing in a clear cut at just over 300yds. The other was a buck standing in brush and I couldn't count antler points to make sure he was legal.

I like the 2-7 range for a variable too, if you decide not to go with the fixed power.

I'd go with a fixed 6X power.

I used one on my Rem. Model 7FS for 15 years. And it was a 7mm-08.
It seems that the 6X covers all the bases for what you need.
I just like fixed power scopes, and I've got a few of them.
Just my two cents, but I don't think you will go wrong with a 6X.

One of my 7mm-08s has an Elite 4200 2.5x-10x-40mm.  It's a great scope, and truthfully all of the magnification that is necessary for a 7mm-08 under most shooting conditions.  I have never really gotten it down to 2.5x when taking shots at game.  I really can't tell much of a difference between 1 to 2x increments anyway.

Well
Very one sided poll if you consider that I voted for the 4x32 so that I could see the results.
You guys seem to think I should buy a nice 6x or a 2-7x.

Would have been nice to see more voters.
