130 grain 7mm soupcan bullet
« on: March 16, 2007, 06:12:45 PM »
I am about to start loading this bullet in several cartridges and would like some recipes if you don't mind sharing. The calibers are 7TC/U, 7BR, 7-30 waters and 7IHMSA in handguns. Mostly 14" barrels. I also intend to load them in the 7-08 and 280Remington rifles. Future plans include taking a deer with this bullet in Maine in the fall. If you think this bullet is to light ,I also have the 168 grain fngc RCBS mold.

Well ,since i have more IMR 3031 on hand than any thing else. I tried some in the 14" contender 7TC/U with the 'soup can". 25 grains went about 1.8" /4 shots and a flier 2" high. 26 gr was a pattern 3"x 4" and 27 grains was a double group. 3 in just over an inch and 2 in .6 ,2" low. 27.5 grains fills the case AND neck, so I ain't going there! Felix lube and hornady gas checks were used.. I found NO leading ,but a nice lube star on the muzzle.  Primers were still round with the 25 gr load. I just MIGHT try the 27 grain load in the carbine barrel to see if it is a barrel thing.

If you have any 748, you might give it a try in the 7TCU.  My load is RCBS 145sil bullet and case full of 748 ignited by WSR primers.  Under 1" @ 100.

When I stopped shooting sillywets I sold my 145 gr mold to a good friend that still played the game. I have several 7mm molds ,but am looking to shoot this LIGHT weight bullet for ground hogs and small game. You are right about 748 powder in most 7mm calibers. I have much more 3031 on hand than 748. I was thinking about a load of Varget powder, but can't find any thing on it except a 145 RCBS bullet!!!. H322 will work, but I only have about 1/2 can of that. Today I cast half a pound coffee can of these bullets. I've got to find a load soon!
