If you are talking about a 1911A1 made in Argentina in 1927 for the Argentine military, you probably can shoot +Ps if you want to stress a 70 something year old pistol.  If you are going to use this for a carry pistol or any sort of personal defense handgun I would suggest you get a recoil spring kit from Wolff Springs (probably a 20 lb set woudl work well and help save the pistol) and a new GI barrel from one of the large distributors who advertise in the shotgun News.  Check first with our sponsors to see if any of them sell 45 barrels, it might save you a few bucks.

I have one of those pistols and wouldn't shoot +Ps.  Although these handguns were made on Colt machinery set up in Argentina at the request of the Argentine Govn't, the steel used is old and (IMHO) not up to the same standards as US Steel.  But even in a 70 year old American made 45 I wouldn't shoot +P.  Isn't worth risking the pistol with high pressures and I'm not sold on +Ps in 45s.  Mikey.

Why plus p's??  If i wasn't carrying my reloads I would carry the winchester silver tips there plenty good enough.  The standard 45acp round is a freight train anyway why speed it up more? On any 1911 I would change the recoil spring too.  I hammered a brand new colt and it couldn't take what i ran thru it.  I ruined a good gun because no one told me to change out the recoil spring.  Were lucky we got Mikey!!!!

Aww Bill, thanks.  Hey - how bad off is that Colt??  We could probably resurrect it into decent shooter.  It would make a good project (Si Senor???).  Mikey.

I don't trust the metal in those old guns, and would not shoot +P ammo in it. If there's an invisible crack in the slide it can mean serious injury or death to the shooter if part of the slide flies into the shooter's face.

I do not know the answer. I assume that if you can fire +P ammo in a WWII 1911A1 that you can also use it in the Sistema Colt 1927. Here is another caveat, I regularly fire 200gr LSWC bullets using 6.1gr Win231 (hot!) and CCI primers in all my 1911A1s. Regards, Richard ;D
