I bought a Savage
« on: April 20, 2007, 01:00:43 PM »

Well...I figured since my co-workers 308 BVSS shoots as good as it does...and Like2hunt swears by his...I figured I would pick one up and give it a whirl...I got a real good deal on a new unfired out of the box 10FP in 308...I put a nice Limbsaver recoil pad on it...and topped it with a new Leupold V2 3x9x40 Tactical scope..If it don't shoot...I'll blame ole Like2hunt ... cause he talked me into it...:D :D :D :D :D

I'll post some pics later of it...

You're probably gonna be wantin' to shake my hand after you shoot it. ;D ;D
Mine is the 12FV 22-250 special run gun with a fluted blued 26" barrel and shot 1/2" at 100 in the flimsy synthetc stock that came on it. I've since put a BVSS laminated stock on it but haven't shot it since. I'm bettin' the groups will be even tighter now.
You're gonna love yours, BTW you have a tactical 10FP, a little higher grade gun than my FV and, if I'm not mistaken, a little higher grade than a standard FP.

If & when I get to shoot it...I had to take it back to the store...it wouldn't eject the shells...  :'( They are going to order a new bolt for it...and was assured I'd be shooting by next week end with it ;D ;D ;D

I can't complain about it (much)...I came out alright on the deal I worked out on the package I put together...and can't complain about spending the $300 for the rifle...The Leupold Tactical scope I picked up for it is sweeeeeeeeet....and the Limbsaver I put on it makes the length of pull perfect for me...I'll keep my fingers crossed it's working right next weekend...

I think you're going to like it Mac,I really like mine with the accutrigger. It's a 204 singleshot and shoots nearly as good as my CZ. I shoot the same load in both rifles ( the first load I tried) and when I do my part it turns in 1/4" groups. It really suprised me when they both shot the same load that well.   Digger

Well crap!! It'll all be worth it when you do get to shoot it. Their customer service is great. You should be shooting soon.

I have no doubt that it will shoot, that's what Savages do!

I certainly hope it does as good as you guys say they do......I have plans to swap out the tupperware stock on it this year...I would like to get one of those Mc Millans A-3's or the BVSS laminates Like2hunt has on his for it that I saw over on Savageshooters.....and a good Bi-pod setup on it too......I think that will be a pretty slick set up..with the scope set up on it I have...This Accu-trigger is very nice..and very light... :o....it will just take a little getting used to for me.....I do see a nice shoot off coming just as soon as I can get it functioning properly...I'm swapping the Smith & Wesson scope out I had fail on me yesterday on my CVA Elite 308 with my VX-1 4x12x40 ...It has some real potential...and both will be heading to the range next time out... ;) ;) ;)

Here's how my 22-250 does without me even trying hard.

Gonna try harder next time though and maybe get 'em all touching, it wouldn't surprise me at all. Mac yours should do as well and better.

Mac;

I think you will be really pleased with that Model 10FP. I really like mine in.223 caliber.
I took mine out last year on the prairie dog shoot and it absolutely loves 77 gr. matchkings with TAC powder. It's going with me this year and all it's shooting it the 77 grainers.
Have fun with it, and keep us posted on your accuracy results.

These little bitty deer we have here are hard to hit. It only took the hogs two years to get used to me before they would come out.  :D  But............many Prarie Dogs have fallen to Savages, Rugers, and Handis by our hands.

Don't think you can go wrong with the Savage. I have a 112fv in 204 Ruger that will out shoot the Rem. 40x in 222 that i use to own.

Yep,John can do some good shooting when there's not a deer in the crosshairs. But you really needed to see what happens when the PD's are at 450 yds.and he's got the M 77 Ruger 220 Swift in his hands. When they were past 400 yds.,he put the 22 250 down and used the Swift with about 90 to 95% kill at 450 yds. He's at his worst with a 30 30 handi in his hands and a deer at 35 yds.,but he did take 2 deer on my place with the 445 supermag. ;D ;D ;D ;D Digger
