Got the brass , dies & 3006 ejector, time to reload & wait for my barrel to be ready.
Winchester cases look good (only maker) except alot of burrs in the flash holes &neck thickness on some are not uniform. No choice on cases so we will have to weed them out resize, trim, deburr the flash holes & weight them out in lots. Hope to get 3800fps out of a 40 gr BT we will see sure is a perty little cartridge

Intresting. What are you going to shoot them out of?
Didn't know NEF made a .225 barrel, or am I missing something.

No they don't. Having a 223 22in bull rechambered to a 225 winchester & changing out the ejector to work with a rimmed case. Should be fun & different

Good for you ONE HOLE 4570, I have a barrel that started out as a .22 Hornet and then was rechambered to a .223. I acquired it after the rechamber but before the ejector work was properly completed. I completed the ejector work on it and found out a bit about the difference between rimmed and rimless ejectors, how they are fitted and how they are supposed to work, it's not a complicated thing but each type must be done correctly and there was not much correct information commonly available just a short while ago. My barrel is now out to be rechambered to .22-250 since after completeing the proper .22 Hornet to .223 ejector conversion from a rimmed to a rimless case I shot the gun and discovered my worse fears to be true the rechamber to .223 had been botched with excessive headspace which I had suspected right after acquiring the barrel and also I learned that it had a rough chamber, to rough to just polish out but not so bad that going to a .22-250 will not clean it up and convert it to a great light truck gun for coyotes as well as a great lightweight gun for carrying around all day through the Maine woods on snowshoes. After checking the specs I suggest since you are going from a rimless to a rimmed (semi-rimmed really) cartridge you may have good or even better luck by fitting the proper year ejector from a Handi 30-30. Be sure you remove the latch spring and the lifter button if you use an ejector from a rimless caliber. Best of luck buddy and I am glad you are going to the .225, it is a wonderful cartridge and I had contemplated it but wanted something with factory ammo available also. I am happy with my .22 Hornet/.223 Remington/.22-250 barrel so far even though it has costed me a bit more than I had anticipated, but because of it's problems I have learned a lot more I would have ever known about these guns. Knowledge is priceless. Please keep us advised on your projects progress....<><....

Thanks guys, I think the rim on the 30-30 is a little larger & the ejector may be too short so I am going to try the 30-06 case family ejector with out the button & spring. The case heads are the same size I believe (no info on this at hand) all from memory(scary

Also would like a 221 fireball if anyone would like to offer up a barrel.
I have a 7-08 to go back to h&r 50% misfire light pin strikes, pulling through This is after a factory triger job. workded fine for 140 rounds or so then started to go south, I'll get another hornet. I think I'm stocking up on small borers

I measured a .30-30 and .30-06 ejector, from the bottom of the ejector to the bottom of the rim cutout, .30-30 = .569", .30-06 = .521", the .30-30 has the thick post, so it wouldn't work in a thin post barrel, the .30-06 ejector does come in both thick and thin post, dunno about the .30-30, but I would recommend the .30-06 ejector be used without the lifter button. Thick post ejector cutout is .180"+, thin post will be close to .120" deep.

I'll be following this thread, as I though I was the only one that has a .225 win, and one of about three people that ever even heard of one!

Would really like to get a barrel for my Handi's, my other one is a custom, built on a old Mauser '98.

If the 30-06 ejector was used and it were fitted to the rim and shoulder of the shell it would most likely have to be used with the lifter button and ejector latch spring to raise it enough by spring pressure to remain in contact under the rim. Since this is to work with a rimmed caliber I believe the point of contact to consider is the diameter of the case at the web, .423 for the .225 Winchester and .422 for the 30-30 as opposed to .470 for the 30-06 as shown in the diagrams supplied by Quick. Also the shape and manner of engagement are a bit different for rimmed and rimless ejectors. The rim diamter difference is not as important as the diameter where it contacts the shell. Depending on the year of production of the barrel the thickness of the ejector post may be either the appx .180 or .120 that Quick mentioned. It is possible for a .120 thick ejector to work in a barrel made with a .180 deep cutout but not the reverse unless you macine or ortherwise remove the appx .060 differnce. There are a lot of things that can be done to these ejectors to make them work with this rather simple system. Best of luck and I hope yours works well....<><....

A .30-06 case is .410" just ahead of the rim where the ejector will need to pick up the case. Either one may work, but the .30-06 ejector will need less "adjusting" IMO, and would be the one I would choose to start with as it's closer to the correct height. It may be a moot point if all .30-30 ejectors are the thick style as mine is, and the donor barrel has a thin post cutout, that would mean a heck of a lot more work to make a .30-30 ejector fit. $:-\$

) I will probable have to do some modification but that will be after the donor is reamed & back home

Loaded rounds and brass is getting hard to find at a decent price.
I just loaded up 60 rds, the brass was provided by a guy that had some laying around, that I found on another forum.
We struck up a deal and I got busy.

Been there one reason I decided to do it, not around that long so why not bring one back.

Tim my 30-30 extractor is wide looking at it from the breach end & thin looking at it from the side.
A 3030 extractor would have to be narrowed or the slot in the barrel widened.
All the rimmed extractors seem to be rounded & the non rimmed narrow & pretty near straight.
The only narrow extractor(from the breach view) for a rimmed centerfire is the hornet & 357. The 223 & 3006 are the same width. Looking at how the rimless ejectors work, I may leave the spring and button in place. The ejector only drops when the barrel is fully open. The rimmeless ejectors are not as high in the body that goes into the lug & the spring will hopefully hold the ejector up to the rim on ejection. May have to modify a hornet ejector or a 357 if the 3006 drops too soon. & the case slides back in. The 357 case is only slightly smaller than the 225 win so it should only need a little taken off.

this is all speculation but one should be m ???ade to work

I think the biggest problem is over the years, there have been so many minor changes that what looks good to one person, may not to another if they aren't looking at the same characteristics on each barrel, which even in the same caliber, may be different!! Someone at H&R told Ironduke2 that there are 4 different thicknesses of ejector posts!!

Win 225, that brings back memories. Stationed with a guy in Beeville Texas (NAS)who had a 225. We were both assigned to station weapons and ran the pistol / rifle ranges and armory and had lots of opportunities for shooting. If memory serves me right, he had a Winchester with bull barrel. Outstanding accuracy out to our longest opportunity which was 300 yrds... Keep us up to date on how everything goes with this conversion....may want to try this one myself....

Went to a gun show today, found two boxs of factory loads, each had a couple of fired brass it them, so there is still some out there.

Didn't find much of any brass at the show to day, but pricing is going up on about everything.
Did get a deal on an old Herters single action .357, made in West Germany.
That why I like the shows, never know what you'll find.

In '70 or '71 had a shop in San Antonio re-chamber an old H&R Topper from 22 Hornet to 225 Win. If I remember correctly the 'Smith never mentioned anything about having to change the ejector. Shot great. Had to sell it when I was sent overseas in Sept '72. Now wish I had gone to the trouble of asking my Dad to store it for me.

Barrel is finished (butchered the caliber stamp just went over it with a dremmel )had to shim it as well, need to mount a scope & waiting on time to shoot it and a new stock. Have some loads ready as well. Tied up with working extra & baseball & school; & ...... list goes on. I will let you know when the grand day comes Have some extra expenses that have come up as well so time & $ is short at this time. Been selling a few things in the I no longer use or have dups of. Take a look in the adds more will come.

I am shooting an H&R Ultra in 225 Winchester and am loading using 375 Winchester brass instead of 225 Winchester brass because of the larger rim. Reloading dies used to load this round are still factory 225 Winchester dies. It did take one annealing and 5 form dies to get the case down to .224 caliber but, after all was said and done, it was worth it....

Man...my wife thinks I'm a gun nut........Been a hunter my whole life...was a cop and semi gun nut for 30 years.........reloader.......archery..muzzleloaders.... bought a bull barrelled .223 only cause I had three cases of ammo and no gun to shoot it from ...and so on and so on..... never heard of a .224 know lots of guys that never even heard of .222..... but when a guy starts talkin about a .224 and "deburring flash holes"....that is one serious shootrer and all round gun nut.....good job.....
