Looking For Some Help
« on: January 05, 2007, 01:14:43 AM »
I'm having a bit of a dilema about what to do, maybe someone on here could help me out. Currently I'm serving in South Korea as an Active Duty Air Force Fire Fighter. I'm expecting to return to the States (MO) by the end of April. I am currently having a 12 pound Confederate Coehorn Morter built for me with a 4.62" inside tube diameter by one of the companies listed on the stickys. I currently have no lead/zinc casting equipment of my own nor the time to get something set up to cast my own bzinc balls in time. I would like to know if someone out there might be willing to assist me in acquiring a hand full (5-10) of solid cast zinc balls measuring 4.52" in diameter to use as fodder to work up loads with right away when I get back. My intention is to get some loads worked up quickly to ranges around 100-200 yards in order to maybe attend the Miswest Artillery Show in MI in late June. I would like to know if someone has zinc balls already cast in the 4.52" diameter and would be willing to part with them or if someone has a mould and would be willing to cast a batch of balls for me. I'm willing to negotiate a price for either method and am willing to pay the shipping to get them to MO by the end of April. Thanks for any assistance you can provide me in this matter.

You can get either shell or shot from Paulson Brothers although it is unclear if the prices are for only one piece (they seem high for a single piece.)

Cannon LTD also lists shot (at the bottom of the page) but gives no price.

Paulson Brothers is a good source.  Get shells not solid shot for your mortar.  When competing you are limited to shell weight as mortars were designed to throw shells not solid shot.  Projectiles are expensive right now because of the skyrocketing metal prices.  The nice thing about mortars though is that you can re-use the shells.

I am glad to hear that you are coming to the Midwest Artillery Show.  You will need seven rounds for the mortar competition there.  We are planning on having the mortars compete on both Saturday and Sunday.  I should have the invitations ready shortly.

I'm still looking for someone who would be willing to cast up some 12 pound (4.52") zinc balls and sell them to me for what they have put in them (material & labor). I still owe $200 dollars on my mortar and I'm going home soon and will be paying off and picking it up when I get back in 23 days. I would like to have at least a couple of projos to test fire this thing with and work up loads. Please help, if you can. Thanks.
