Disappointing Day
« on: April 02, 2007, 03:23:01 PM »
I took my little bronze howitzer out today and was only able to get off 2 shots. I had to give up because it was snowing too hard. Also it seems that a 2 oz lead ball ahead of 100 grains of 3f will only just barely go through a 2.5 gallon container of water. Hardly the explosion of water I was hoping for.
I may not be completely sane, but at least I don't think I have the power to influence the weather.

Snow.  82 here tomorrow.

We used to get the mortar out in the dead of Iowa winters.  Pictures taken then will be treasured - not many folks take them in the winter.

The massive explosion of water from a container comes from high velocity - not the realm of mortars.

DD the bore is .867.
Radio2, which do you want to see,
the video of my first shot missing the water jug at about 15 feet. The second video of the water draining out of the jug because the camera shut itself off while I was reloading and didn't get it started until too late. Or maybe the third one panning to the right and left from the drivers seat of my PU showing the snow.
Or would you prefer the stills of the snow through windows of my PU.
Like I said it was a disappointing day.

Lets see:

Fired a cannon and missed the water jug at about 15 feet.
Fired a cannon and water drained out of the hole

You fired a cannon!!!!  Where is the disappointment in that? Just think about of all those poor people in the world who didn't get fire a cannon, now that is disappointment.
  ;D ;D

Jeeper1,

I feel your pain. It's has flurried here in Vegas 6 or 7 times in the 18 years I've lived here..... ;D  ;D  ;D  ;D  At least you were able to to get a few down range and look at the bright side.... you weren't shooting golfballs and trying to find them.  :D

If you make it idiot proof, then, someone will make a better idiot.

Radio2, after careful perusal of the videos, I decided not to post them. The first one, where I missed shows me stepping in front of the camera. I thought I was ugly from the front but lord have mercy I look much worse from the back. The others are boring. The stills aren't much better.  Here's one.

Intoodeep, when I shoot golf balls, I don't look for them. They're too cheap and would be nearly impossible to find in the forest.

Those are pretty tough containers.  Try one with a .30-'06 for comparison.  And remember, the '06 has a lot more energy than your small bore cannon.

ANY day you can swing your feet over the side of the bed and stand up IS a good day! :D (Though sometimes I have trouble remembering that!)
And If You were down here with the never changing weather you would WANT to be up there. Do you realize It's been a year since I shot ANYTHING?

It was 80 (F) last week. it's 8am and snowing now (with 1-1/2" on the ground).

Hiding Easter eggs for the kids' Easter-Egg-Hunt today at 1pm is going to be interesting!

If it stays cold (not warming up to be so messy) I'M GOING shooting!
