barrel liner in a handi barrel?
« on: April 02, 2007, 04:38:30 AM »
Anyone here in the Handi Brain Trust ever consider putting a .500 diameter barrel liner chambered in 32-30 or 25-20 in a 500 S&W barrel?  Thoughts? Opinions? Thanks guys.

Are you talking about a permanent liner to change the caliber or a "removable" type barrel insert to allow smaller rounds to be used?
I've made several permanent inserts and stub jobs..........  .32-20 was the last one.

i was thinking permanent for lower pressure rounds like the 25-20 and 32-20.  It would make a heavy barrel putting a liner in a 500 but it should be fairly easy to do....i think.

Maybe put one in a .410 barrel?  Just a thought...

Liners are about $100.00, just bore the barrel to fit and epoxy them in.  Low pressure rounds only, Larry

It looks like there is only about 0.0275 keeping a 7/16" 25-20 liner from going in a 410.  I like the way you guys think.

I think the only problem with the 410 is that the chamber is most likely a little large for the 25-20 liner, but you may be able to just run some sliver solder around it and have it be happy.  Larry

I was thinking to just drill the few extra thousandths out of the whole barrel to fit the liner and epoxy it in with acra glass as in brownells instructions concerning relining.  I still might need some sort of bushing to fit in the chamber between the chamber walls and the liner.

Probably the way to go would be to bore the chamber slightly over size, then press in a bushing and drill the whole barrel to fit the liner.  Larry
