Non-Accutrigger, 110, synthetic, scoped pkg, .270 @ Walmart
« on: February 08, 2007, 12:44:18 PM »
Saw a Savage 110 scoped package, non Accutrigger, at Walmart today.  Tag said $339.00, but the mngr said that they're likely going to drop it next week to $275 give or take.  They're being taken out of the Gun Business.

1) I dislike Synthetic(toy) stocks....  I guess I could always buy a wood stock online fairly cheap eventually....

2) I'm fond of .308... never shot a .270...  My dad had a Rem BDL in it, but never got it to shoot very well....

3)  Scope is a Simmons Blazer 3-9x40

4) they have a laminate stock Remington ADL same caliber for $465 and likely to hit $400.  I'd rather have this but for the price difference when the scope is considered....

Very tempting

If it gets that low in price, I'd buy it, even if you just use it for trading material or resell it to make a bit of profit.  The scope on the package guns is a cheapy, and I wouldn't even say that it adds any value for you.  :P

Nothing wrong with the .270, it'll do anything the .308 and 30-06 will do, just shoots a little flatter along the way.

The ADL laminate is a great looking gun, and a good deal if it hits $400 or less.  I think it's a good deal at $465 honestly.  If you are buying a rifle for you to keep and use, and you like the Remington better, that's the one I'd get.

If you are just looking for a beater or spare gun, or to have a gun to make money on, I'd get the Savage.

My son has a similar Savage setup in 7mm08 and it is a compact, light, and accurate setup but it does tend to get your attention at the bench due to the light 6.5 lb weight. On the other hand, it is great to carry in the woods. This one was purchased when funds were tight and the Remy was out of my price range. It was my first Savage but after having a trigger job done, it has caused me to purchase 2 more of its siblings when I got the chance. Scope has held up better than I anticipated but may yet get replaced.

My 700 ADL (wood stock) is a nice rifle and accurate, more photogenic and heavier than the Savage but it gets the job just as well. I would not mind providing a good home to a couple of its siblings if I could swing it.

If funds are not too tight, get either or both, hard to go wrong with either one.

I bought my son a savage 110 bolt 270 scope package deal. I got it including tax under 3 bills at BPS. The simmons scope was a cheap scope but it served its purpose. When I got the money I put a 3-9x40 bushnell banner on it. Never looked back. ;) And since I reload, got some hornady 130 sp and using IMR 4350 powder, that rifle is the flatest shooting rifle I've ever seen. And unbelievely accurate. I know 4831 is a real good powder, but for this rifle, the 4350 powder works so much better.

...i have the 111 in .270, which is the 110 in hunter disguise. Knocked everything i've shot at down(i.e. dead.)
...there are many kinds of wounded, and only one kind of dead. Do it the Handi way, one shot, one kill.
