Dummy Me
« on: April 18, 2007, 11:58:59 AM »
Ok, just got a G2 Contender frame and a Contender barrel, Super 14, just arrived.  Duh, the two won't match up, with the barrel on correctly, the hammer won't cock, but with the barrel on, no pin inserted, and pointed slightly up, the hammer will cock.

HELP?????  What am I doing wrong? ???

Go to your local gun dealer with your frame and ask to try your barrel on another G-2 frame and then try another barrel on your frame.  This may shed some light.  May be just a simple fix.  I dont think you are doing anything wrong.

Otherwise, I give T/C a call.

I called the pro shop and they said it was probably an older barrel and the locking lugs probably needed to be changed out to fit the G2.....

That was exactly what I was going to suggest. They should send you a set if you call and ask free of charge.

I wish.  She told me I would have to send the barrel in with $55 and they would fix it.

I do not know what a new set cost now, or how much fitting is required for a G2 frame, but just buying them for barrel projects was a "Lot" cheaper than that a few months ago. Changing from the old to new style for the Contender frame was just a matter of removing a pin and replacing them. Maybe new owners have had a change of policy?

Hell when I changed over to the G-2 frame I called up and they sent 5 sets for various barrels that had the older style on them, all were drop in with no fitting, I'd have them just send a set out to you, likely if you are not comfortable changing them yourself, a local 'smith will do it for 20.00 or so.

What a load of crap. The G2 was designed with the intent on having the older barrels fit so you would not have to buy new ones! I would ask to talk to the supervisor on duty, Probably "Roland," let him know what is going on and what that lady told you.
I would not send them a dime. Lifetime warranty means just that.

I had one barrel that gave me trouble and polished the flat side with a fine stone until they fully engaged.  At that time TC wanted me to send the frame and all barrels back for fitting, but it was at no charge.  Others have had luck getting bolts sent if they spoke with one of the techs, not the office folks.  I called yesterday from work when I wanted to know the size of bolts that hold on a Contender forearm, and was sent to 5 folks then got voicemail and no return call.  I am concerned about that as well.  That never would have happened in the old days.

muzzleblast525-  When you say you called the proshop, do you mean FoxRidge Outfitters?  If so, I would call the regular number for T/C Arms and ask for technical assitance.  The proshop is a seperate unit from T/C arms.  I would be very surprised if they charge you to fix the barrel.  If they do I will be shocked.  I have never paid for a repair with T/C yet, only shipping to get the item to them.

The Pro Shop told me to call TC Arms and there shouldn't be a charge.  I called TC Arms today and they are the ones that told me to send my frame and barrel, along with the money, and they would fix it in a couple of weeks.  I asked why would I need to send my frame and she said to make sure its a good fit.  Of course, I asked wouldn't that defeat the purposes of having different barrels and she said that I could send my other barrels in also.  I told her, not at $55 dollars a pop.  Maybe I should have called back sooner and spoke wtih somebody else.

I just got off the phone with TC Arms and got it all straightened out.  The woman I talked to yesterday apparently is new and doesn't know what she was talking about.  They said they will do it for free.
