Breaking in my new encore
« on: April 08, 2007, 03:37:39 PM »
Finally ready to take my new 50 cal ML to the range.  What have you found to be the most important thing about breaking in a new barrel?

I just go the 25 acp conversion set up and have several different bullets and trying both tp7 loose powder and pellets to find the right load.

Thanks,

The most important thing?  (Though now quite in the vein of your query.)   RECORDS!  RECORDS!  RECORDS!

Once you start playing with a few different bullets styles/bullet weights/sabots/powders/powder weights/primers, etc., your memory goes south.  Write it all down and hang on to it.  Sometimes you see a pattern starting to show up that will lead you in the right direction.  At the very least you'll avoid repeating things that didn't work.

I just shoot it and clean it after about 5 shots, I then run a patch with bore butter down the barrel. When I am done shooting for the day, I clean it and run a patch with break free followed by a patch with bore butter.

I think bore butter is good for seasoning a barrel.  JMHO.   ;D
