Big bore loadings in the Marlin 1895
« on: April 07, 2007, 01:39:15 PM »
Is there any real advantage in custom chambering the marlin 1895 in anything over the .45-70?
Garret and Buffalo Bore offer .45-70 magnum loadings that have successfully taken the biggest animals on this planet.
What real world advantages are there in cartridges like .457 wild west magnum, .50 Alaskan, and .510 Kodiak?

Bigger bullets...bigger holes...and not every one wants to go out and pay $50-$60 dollar a box for ammo for the Garret's...Not to mention some folks just want something different...The real world advantage would be up to the individual doing the conversion...and having what they may feel is a better solution...It's not always about paper ballistics...
