Winchester 1400 12Ga.
« on: May 01, 2007, 02:49:58 PM »
I recently bought a Win. 1400 in 12ga.  It was used but appeared to have been fired very, very little if at all.  I had looked at it for some time and did a little research. The price was right so it came home.  It seems people either hate or love them.  I have to say that my experience after using it for a considerable amount of skeet is that it may not be the prettiest gun in the rack(I will take dependability and shoot-ability over snob apeal any day) but it sure shoots nice.  Low recoil, points well and seems to function well.  Anybody with similar experience?

I've got a 20ga 1400 that I really enjoy. It is a little finicky about ammo though, it will shoot premium ammo all day without jamming, but jams and causes me problems with the cheap ammo. By cheap ammo I'm talking about the universal loads that Wal-mart sells (100 rounds for about $15). So I just stick with the STS loads and enjoy.

I just gave my dad one that I had a few years.I've always been a remington man but the price was right when I picked it up at a pawn shop.As you say the balance seemed good and pointability was great I guess the only thing I didn't like was that it wasn't plugged and only held three shells and when deer hunting I aways removed the plug on my 1100s to get 5 shots.Dad says he likes it just fine and especially the light recoil.Overall I think it's a great bird gun and has the screw in chokes.

I have an old 1400 with interchangeable barrels for trap and skeet. It was my uncle's and saw a lot of trap and skeet shooting in his day.  I used it exclusively on small game in my early hunting years. Nice gun, light recoil for a 12 ga. but a bit heavy to trek around in the woods or fields! It was always finicky with shells though and the slightest bit of grease or gunk in the tube/spring area fouled up the cycling of the 3 shells.
