limbsaver on handi 45-70

Have any of you put a limbsaver recoil pad on a handi rifle? Was wanting to get one for my newly acquired 45-70. If so, do any of the pre-fit ones fit the handi-rifle or do I need to get the grind-to-fit model?

I think limbsaver #10003 is for the handi. A local gunsmith has mine waiting for me tomorrow. The number could be 10103. I'll let you know tomorrow.

There are quite a few here that have them. I have a small grind to fit for mine but I havent had time to fit it yet. The only prefit one is for the Ultra Slug hunter.

there are quite a few different buttstock dimensions in the field on these Handis, It is best to try yours and to either trace or very carefully measure your individual buttstock before trying to purchase a recoil pad. Just because it says H&R or NEF does not mean it will fit perfectly. A recoil pad or buttplate from one Handi stock may or may not fit another Handi stock without fitting....<><....

The 10601 and 10003 will fit some stocks so-so, but not perfect, you'll need to drill new holes in the butt stock to match the pad holes. The small grind-to-fit will work on any wood stock, but don't plan on finding one to match the synthetic stocks unless it's the slip on.

I put one on my 45/70 and it helped a bunch. I still has as a lot of push but it took the sharp bite out of it. I called limbsaver and gave them my butt stock dimensions and they recommended I think a medium grind to fit. I could use one hole had to drill one for the other I have not ground mine yet my or may not. it hangs over a little but not much.

The medium grind-to-fit might work, but the small definitely does, I've done several of them.

The 10102 limbsaver pad for 870, 1187 and marlin 336 in 444/450 will fit the monte carlo synthetic really close. To line the holes, I'm going to epoxy in a peice of oak to the inside bottom of the stock. The top screw hole matches.

Brownell's or Midway have lots of pads to choose from, you can get different thicknesses, materials and colors, just use their search box for recoil pad.
I have a small grind to fit on a .45-70 Carbine, treated with Slick Eez pad treatment so it's not sticky.

They are not pretty but if you want to take the bite out at the range, check out the Shooters Friend recoil pad at Cabelas. Just type it Shooter Friend recoil pad. This fits the Handi and you wont believe how good thiis ugly little pad works. Puts every pad I ever tried to shame. They claim 70 percent reduction in felt
recoil. they are right. About 18.00

But man does it work. I enjoy shooting again even with my bad shoulder. If you have no shoulder issues or enjoy being pounded with a chunk of hardwood then this may not be for you.
