Need help with Electronic Caller
« on: June 03, 2007, 04:30:20 PM »
I am trying to make one of the portable electronic callers that can use a mp3 player as a sound source. I have the mp3 player and I have a Johnny Stuart caller with a speaker. This is where things get kinda hairy for me what else do I need? Can I get part number #: 277-1008 from radio shack and plug the mp3 player into one hole and the speaker into another or am I missing something? Can someone please give me some direction possibly part numbers to get this done? Thanks Aaron

That mini-amp is all that you will need in addition to a couple of the 1/8" cords to do the hookup.
You may have to cut the end off one of the cords and splice these two wires to your speaker leads.
I believe that the mini-amp will cost around $12.00 to include tax.

A complete unit...

As far as your Johnny Stuart elect call goes, simply plug the amp in between the external speaker port on the stuart caller and another speaker like the one pictured

Go To Page 3 of this forum and see The Homemade Elect Caller by SDHandgunner for some great packaging ideas once you have all of your componets and get them working.

So is there some kind of adapter plug or something I need to solder to the speaker to make it fit the amp?

When you purchase the mini-amp, also get a couple of the 6’ patch cords that have the 1/8” stereo plugs on both ends (RS #42-2387) these are all that you need.

Cord #1 plugs into the earphone, or external speaker jack of your mp3, portable CD player, or the existing port on the speaker of your Johnny S and the other end is plugged into the (IN) port on the amp.

Cord #2 plugs into the (Out) port on the amp. It may be nessary to cut the other end off of this cord so that you can separate and strip the insulation off of these two inner wires so that you can splice them to your two speaker wires. You don’t need a lot here, simply twist the wires together (one inner cord wire with one speaker wire) (two total) and wrap them with some elect tape so there is no bare wire to touch on anything.

The amp requires a common 9volt batt and has it’s own volume control. You will have to experiment with different settings that will give you clarity without distortion.

Wow something I missed, the mini amp is out of stock. How long has it been that way? Have they permanently stopped making it? Anywhere else I can find something like this?

No one has any idea? Come on there has to be some device that I can cannibalize to get the part I need. Anyone?

It's showing out of stock online, but in stock at all the stores around me. You may want to check stock at a Radio Shack near you.
