BBTH brought the 357 today!!!!
« on: April 26, 2007, 06:51:23 PM »
The UPS driver must have had the BBTH in stealth mode because I didn't hear the "UPS truck transmission sound".  Just a knock on the door.  Got the dies, got the powder, just need some brass and I will be good to go.  Might resort to some off the shelf ammo.

The Bushnell Trophy is a tight fit.

I am really happy with the barrel fitting job.  It is much tighter than the previous 44 and 223 accessory barrels were.  It has an aluminum Williams brand rear sight on it by the way.  Also it is superior to the plastic one that the 44 barrel came with.  This will be a great plinker and a great rung on the ladder for my son to shoot after he masters the 22.

I couldn't wait to mount the scope and base from the long gone 44 barrel.  Might just try to sneak off to the river or a gravel pit tomorrow.

Edited:  I shipped it on 3-19 and got my grubby hands on it today, 4-26.  I called and thanked NEF for their fast service yesterday after I tracked the package.  Everyone needs a good word every now and then.

Nice-looking wood on your rifle! What loads are you planning to try? I am hoping to take my .357 to the range this weekend with a handful of 158-gr. lead loads and some 125-gr Hornady XTPs. This time I loaded standard pistol primers and milder charges with the lead bullets, as my last batch with magnum primers leaded the barrel and keyholed occasionally. Am looking forward to hearing how your .357 performs.

Going to Dallas next week, will give me chance to browse a real store.  Thinking about 140 Hornady XTP.  Was going to buy the cheapest 38's off the shelf that I can find too.  I have some H4227, but was thinking H110 or Alliant 2400.  The Lyman book shows a lot of variety with these two powders.

Loading mild in the 357 case instead of using 38's might be an easier solution in the long run.  Will study on that.  I want a light load for my son to shoot and a CHEAP load for me to plink.  My uncle is pushing Clays, but I have a week or two to make a decision.

Good looking little 357 ya got. I like those Williams sights better then the others they have used. And the Trophy's are very good scopes for the money. Nice clear lenses and a wide view.

Look forward to a report

BB

Nice looking rig , as to loads try some cast 158 SWCs with Unique or Trail Boss , both will make for cheap shooting . and also with the H110 a little will go a long way in the 357 mag.

I didn't think about Trail Boss.  I might try a can of that to go with some reduced 30-30's someone was telling me about.

There really are a lot of choices for the 357.  Good thing is that I have some garage sale RCBS dies ($2) already cleaned up and ready to go.
