Howdy from a Kiwi and a new bow hunter "I Hope"
« on: September 20, 2007, 12:44:54 AM »
Howdy all,
after hunting with single shot rifles for years, I sold a couple of my rifles and bought a secondhand PSE The Beast. I am very lucky that my workmate is a good bow hunter and got me keen, he helped me set the bow up and sighted in tonight, my first 5 shot group  at 10yds was 3" and my second group at 20yds was 5", boy was I happy with that, but I reckon a heap of  practise is needed before hunting, for the arrow to be nocked, release aid attatched,  draw to be smooth, the peep sight to the eye, the pin on the target and the front hand relaxed, trigger pulled all happening with out thinking about it is I guess what I need to aim for before hunting big game. I have been reading this forum the last couple of nights and appreciate what appears to be much sound advice given, I will be sure to let you guys know how I get on and certainly post photos of my first succesful hunt,
Thanks Howard.   ;D

G'day Hunter NZ. Welcome to the forums.

I like photos and a good hunting story.

BEWARE .... bow hunting is addictive  ;D

I have friends and acquaintances that regularly bow hunt both New Zeland and Australia with their long bows, and it's always an adventure.  A friend just returned from a buffalo hunt in Australia and took a whopper.  I would love to make the trip some day, too.  Best of luck in your new venture!

As you can see I made my first kill with the bow, to be honest it gave me a bigger thrill than the pig I shot with my rifle earlier in the day, I have to say that I wasn't aiming for a head shot,
regards Howard.
