Good price?

I was out looking at the clearance rack at the local gunstore and saw a new ultralight Handi in 30-30 for $149. I've been looking for one of these rifles, but I'm always looking for a bargain. Not the caliber I want but figure that it would make a great deer rifle and of course I can always get more barrels fitted. Seems like (from what I've read) that the wood stocked versions might be more accurate, but I really liked the weight and handling of this gun. What do you think? Good buy?

Welcome aboard!!
$149 is a great price for a new Handi, they sell for $200-$220 normally. But as far as I know, they have never made a Superlight Handi in .30-30, just 22 Hornet, .223 and .243. I'd grab it in a heart beat for that price, even if it's a standard contour which I suspect it is.
Superlights are listed at the bottom of the H&R page.

Big Al
you better grab that puppy up. Even if it isn't a caliber you want, the 30-30 always seems to be in demand around here. I am sure you could trade it for something you prefer.

Sounds like a plan...now how do I sneak it into the house? Just kidding, my wife is the best! I've got to go back and look to see what it is...Quick you must be right. Still an awfully light gun!

Just take an empty gun case with ya and tell her you're looking to trade one of your guns for another, bring it back with what you tell her is the same gun!!
To my wife, they all look the same for the most part, she would never figure it out.

There's also an advantage to having lots of guns, at least until she starts keeping a count of em!!

Tim you have so many you have trouble keeping up with them,
much less your wife, just kidding. best to you Marv.
That may be a older H&R 30-30 barrel, they were pretty slim,
my son has one made back in 72 or 73 Marv.

Grab the 30/30. It will make a good rifle for white tails . You can always get more barrels. Who knows you might become a handiholic like the rest of us. BTW where are you in Ne. I am in seward about 20 miles west 0f lincoln.Coldmold
