Do I add .001" to desired final dia?
« on: April 30, 2007, 11:43:57 AM »
I want to order a mold, but I have a question, I want to end up with a .432" 280g WFNGC. Do I need to order a .433" mold for use with a star sizer? or do I just order a .432" and run them through. What is best?
Thanks.

My diameter guarantee, which is not time limited, by the way, is.  Not more than .0015 over what you ask for, and not under what you ask for, using the alloy specified by the customer.

Because Star sizers inject lube at such tremendous pressure, if there is the slightest crack, or unsized area, lube will leak out, so I ask the customer to specify if they are using a Star and I add about a thousandth, or lean a bit heavier if the mould happens to come out exactly to the desired diameter, which they often do.

This little nitpickyness gives my customers a finer tuned tolerance than if they add the extra size. (Nitpickyness is another word for precision.  So is persnickity, and sometimes bullheaded.)
