99 Savage Age? Ser no 305027, X on receiver by lever??

Many thanks to anyone who can help,  this is a 30-30 and I am fairly
certain it is pre WWII but cant be sure of that.

LEE:  Serial # 305,000 was at the END of 1927 so your 99 was manufactured in the beginning of 1928 which serial # ended 317,000 hope this has been of help to you. :D    JIM

your information is truly appreciated, I am not surprised at it's age.

This old 30 30 was used exclusively for many years by an old genteleman from upstate N York, who took a number of large racked bucks.  The stock has a small compass imbedded in the top of the rear stock, and the rear stock has about 11 notches cut  into it,  I presume the notches were cut when a big buck was taken.  Also a crack in the rear stock has been repaired by putting a screw into it.  The old rifle saw lots of battle and a
life time of hunting for a hunter who has passed on.

I too owned an older 30-30 Model 99E many years ago.  Traded a Win '94 in .32 Special for it.  Unfortunately, I let it get away before I found out how old it was. It was made in Utica, so it was pre WWII.  That was where my love of 99's was first born.  Wish I had it again!  Yours has a wealth of history by the sounds of your tale.  Here's to the ole' Upstate New York Hunter.........
