REDFIELD SCOPES

I'M WONDERING IF ANYONE WHO FREQUENTS THIS FORUM COULD FILL ME/US IN ON EXACTLY WHEN AND WHAT HAPPENED TO THE REDFIELD SCOPE COMPANY. 
ARE THEY STILL IN BUSINESS?  DID THEY GO OUT OR UNDER AND THEN REORGANIZE AND COME BACK ETC.
MORE SPECFICALLY,  DID THEY MANUFACTURE SCOPES WITH A MATTE FINISH IN DENVER?  I'M LOOKING AT ONE ON EBAY DESCRIBED AS A VINTAGE DENVER MFG. SCOPE NIB AND IT HAS A MATTE FINISH.  IS IT PROBABLY GENUINE OR NOT?

Not sure if it would be genuine or not, I do understand that the biggest problem on ebay is counterfeit Leupold scopes. I don't know if Redfield produced matte finish scopes when Redfield was in Denver, would be more my assumption that they produced them after being acquired by Blount Industries, but I'm not 100 percent sure on that. The beginning of this article gives a brief history of Redfield, it might help you in trying to draw a conclusion.

They were bought out by MEADE optics.  I have a Meade telescope (A big one) and the optics are great.  I believe the optics now on the scopes are made in Japan.  Goto www.meade.com and check out the new stuff.  Good Luck

   Looking at mine it's gloss black but don't say where it's made even though I know it's a Denver because it's a 1970. All the older ones Iv'e ever seen were gloss.

I have a 3x9 Widefield Illuminator that is matte and a regular 3x9 Widefield that is gloss.  The gloss one is from the 70's and the matte was given to me in the early 90's.
