Plated vs Jackets

Generally I like to run a dozen or so jacket rounds through my K-38 at the end of a shooting session.... the general idea being to hopefully blow out any lead that may have been deposited by the bullets I'd cast from wheelweight.  Was over at the local gun emporium this afternoon as I needed to buy a box of jacketed bullets....  noted plated bullets.  They appear to be a lead bullet with a heavy jacket metal plating on it.  Wonder if it will serve the same purpose at a substancial savings?  Or will this be a case of getting what I pay for?

I've used Berry's plated bullets for quite a while and they work very well. Give 'em a shot, but don't expect a jacketed round to remove lead....it usually just creates a micro-thin lead smear in the bore.

The plating is not thick enough to do what you are attempting. I doubt if it is more than 1/1000 or so thick. All it really does is create a little lubricity to the bullet. They work well at moderate speeds but will lead your barrel terribly if pushed to fast. I use Rainier bullets exclusively for my 45acp loads and they work wonderfully. I tried some in 44mags once and it was a disaster.  KN

That's what I was somewhat afraid of... looks like a case of getting what I paid for.  No big thing, won't take long to burn off 250 of them.  Will just buy a couple boxes of the jacketed bullets that I should have bought in the first place.
