I also ordered one but am out of the county till next weekend. So I am no help at all either but I'm looking forward to trying it out. Never actually shot a Savage before but their reputation seems excellent. I really wanted a Tikka Varmint, but good old Beretta refsue to import it in 204, their loss.
I have a black scope lined up for mine, should clash nicely with the stainless steel!!! What mounts would people recommend?? I will be putting a Nikon scope, 40 mm objective. Bear in mind that the 204 barely recoils.

Good job ATR, great minds think alike. This spell checker is annoying, FYI>

Old English,
I bought warne bases and rings for mind, but I'd be just as happy with leupold, millet, I've heard talley is good but I haven't tried them yet.
Good luck when you get your new rifle.

I have a model12bvss and i shoot 1/4" groups with it at 100yds. With factory ammo if you zero at 200yds the 40gr vmax is .7in high at 100yds. I shoot a hand load in mine. Hornaday 40gr vmax, 26grs IMR 4895, i get velocities at about 3500fps at 39,000psi(from IMR specs).

get the burris sig. rings and order a box of there inserts for the rings. that way you can zero it in
without cranking your adjustment knobs on the scope too far in any direction. for some reason i
had to use these rings on my low profile 204  and my fp10 savage so i can keep the recticle as
close to center as recommended by most scope manufacturers. It's worth the extra bucks for
the rings
rather hunt with dick chaney then ride with ted kennedy

I'm looking for a M12 Long Range Precision Varminter (LRPV) in .223.

I have looked around everywhere.  What I found out is that Savage has a price increase on April 1st, and Savage (like other manufacturers in the industry) are holding on to their guns before they ship them.

From what I have been told, you can't count on when the guns will actually get shipped.

I'm a huge Tikka fan, and was ready to get the .223 in the Tikka Varmint Stainless, which I could have gotten for an unbelievable price of $595.  I really want the LRPV, which is noticeably more expensive.  I already found 2 people that will sell them to me just $20 over dealer invoice, so I'll just wait a few more weeks.   ;)

I had a 12 Low profile .204.  I sold it because I didn't need it, and I wanted the money for something else.  With my handloaded 39 grain sierra's at close to max charge I got .3-.4 inch ctc five-shot groups at 100 yards.  I know the gun could probably just about be a one-holer, but that was the best I could do.  I sighted in at 250.  It's so flat shooting that I much preferred 250 over 200.  It was kinda funny.  I remember sighting it in at an actual 250.  My friend was with me.  My final three shots  that got me dialed in measured .625 ctc.  He was beside himself at how that .204 could shoot.  I've talked to a couple other people that had the same gun, and they told me that there's would pretty much do the same thing.

My Savage and CZ both like the 32 gr. Sierra's and 27 grs. of H 322. They both shoot in the 1/4" range at 100 yds. but the factory ammo does not shoot as well. They are both very deadly on PD's at 400 yds.     Digger

I finally pick mine up tomorrow!!!! I have to go away for another work project for 2 weeks, I'll be looking forward to trying it on my return.
.65" at 250 yards sounds like heaven to me!!
