For all you southern bow hunters...

If you are like I am, and hate to check for ticks during the summer, try this.

Buy some over the counter garlic pills, and start taking them about a week before you go to the woods for any length of time.  You might get the occasional bug or two, but they definitely work.  If you are staying overnight or for a few days, weeks or months, make sure to take enough, because you have to keep taking them.  I usually take two a day, and up it to three a day if the bugs are bad.

Another alternative is to eat a match head once a day.  This definitely works, also, but tastes really bad.

I've got tons of Army tricks for the woods, so I will keep posting them every now and again when things get slow.

Have a good 'un.

the only downside to the garlic is that the animals can smell you as well. they will soon catch on to the smell  and relate it to hunters.

I've heard tell of putting sulfur in your socks will keep bugs off. Any truth to it?

When I was a boy we put sulphur in a sock and used it to dust our clothes and socks we wore by hitting it on us. Yup it worked. Kept the ticks and chiggers both away.

Most of the old Mainers I know swear by eating a lot of garlic in their food to keep black flies away, they also seem to take the biggest deer every year....<><.... :?
