Yikes! Price of ammo
« on: February 26, 2007, 05:51:02 PM »
Holy cow, I have shot up my supply of 45 acp and went this weekend to stock back up. Last year I was buying white box Winchesters at Bass pro shop for around $7:50 a box. Yesterday they were $14:95. Wow that takes some of the fun out of plinking. Guess it could be worse. Son and I looked at a 500 mag while we were there. $1,095 for the gun and $39:95 for a box of 25 rounds. Even the el cheepo .38 spcl I used to pick up for $5 a box are around $13 now. :o

Hey Paul - check Natchez Shooters Supply, Cabelas or Shotgun News - you can get 45 ball by S&B or Wolf for around $10 a box - same with 38s.  What the hay are you buying Winchester White Box for - that is 2nd quality ammo and standard winchester prices.  And what they hay are you buying from the bass pro shops for - they don't have a problem making money off ya Pal.

Buy in bulk, you will be happier.  Reload, you will be even happier then.  Reloading is a great Father/Son activity.  HTH.  Mikey.

Thanks for the info Mikey, You can bet I'll look into those places. I feel like I get ripped off on everything I buy anymore. No need to get hosed on ammo.

The best prices for 45 acp ammo is your local WalMart. Prices have gone up there too. Blazer Brass is $11 for a box of 50 and Winchester WWB of 100 is $27. Reloading is cheaper but component prices have gone up as well.

I was buying the wolf 45acp for $67 / 500rds but its a little higher now.  I watch www.the-armory.com for sales on ammo.  Cabela's has gotten into the ammo sales and good deals are there too.

The top Ammo dealers to watch and price shop for the best deals;  www.sportsmansguide.com
                                                                                              Cabela's
                                                                                              The armory

Reloading for handguns is still affordable and right now its looking better again.  Its time to buy all the reloading dies in every caliber you have before those prices go up too.

I think its time to get a 1911 that shoots the 22lr.

Check out these guys.
www.3lees.com
You send them your good reloadable cases, they send you ammo. It seems decent, and the prices are great.
