I dont own either. But I do own a Marlin 336 in 35 Rem.
I believe one trait that the 1894 shares with the 336 is that by taking out one screw on the lever, the lever can be pulled out, then the bolt pulled right out, and the barrel can be cleaned from the back end. Thats one thing that I love about the Marlin, and why i didnt consider a Winchester. The marlin, has like 4 moving parts, and you can take the bolt out, and more importantly, put it back in easily.
I think a rifle that you want to keep forever, you really want one that cleans from the back end.
I dont think you can clean the Ruger bolt easily, but I may be wrong.
