re: Sig 229 40/357 combination
« on: June 12, 2004, 12:29:35 AM »
Hello ...

I am trying to decide which new Sig to buy.  I looked at a Sig 229 40S&W/357 Sig. combination gun, with interchangeable barrels.  I would like to get an opinion on how this pistol functions in terms of interchangeability.  Has anyone out there experience with interchanging the barrels on the Sig?  How does the pistol stand up to continued use of both barrels?  Encountered any problems with it?  How is accuracy?  How is functioning?

Such a pistol seems quite practical and desirable:  one can have the utility and availability of the .40S&W cartridge or switch to the power of the .357 Sig by simply dropping in a new barrel.  I wonder if the pistol has met with the expectations of Sig owners.  Any feedback would be most appreciated.

I had a 229 with both barrels until recently and REALLY regret selling it off.
It always functioned perfectly with either barrel any with any ammo. It used the same recoil spring for everything from 125gr 357 rds to 180gr .40 ammo.
Everyone who fired it was very impressed as well, including one guy who offered me more than I had in it, hence the sale.
It was controllable, accurate, powerful, and was a natural pointer. Not too big or too small.
I would buy another in a heartbeat.

Hello Dave...

Well, that certainly is good feedback.  Positive functioning with a variety of bullet weights and across barrel changes definitely builds confidence in the choice.  I wonder if anyone out there has had a differing experience.  I
only have one Sig in my collection, a P220.  However, I am most impressed with it's functioning.  I have never, ever had a problem shooting ammo as diverse as reloads, GI hardball, or hollow points.  Everything is digested without a hitch, and the accuracy is incredible.

Thanks,
Gary

My .357 Sig/.40 functions exceptionally well with either barrel.  I don't see any real difference in the accuracy between the two.  I bought my 229 used from an ex county monty.  He had just purchased the gun a few weeks prior to getting caught abusing a female he had taken into custody.  I don't think he put very many rounds thru the gun, at least it didn't"t show.  I purchased the .357 barrel and 100 rounds of factory reloads from an individual at a gun show for $100.  Since I've owned the gun, I've fed it at least 3-4 thousand rounds, never had a malfunction, always put the bullet where (or close to) where I wanted it.  Both barrels shoot as good as the shooter.

I have a Older 1993 Sig sauer P229 that came 40 S&W and have gotten a SIGARMS 357 Sig Barrel.
I have had the pistol Hard Chromed and added Nightsights & a Lasermax.
I have shot almost 20,000 total threw the pistol,& never a malfunction nothing but 100% reliability & function..Tipical SIG!!
And it shoots to point of aim with just about every load used in 40 & 357..

They are a great pistol!

I currently own four SIGS, the 229 in .40 S&W was the first one I bought and I later bought a .357 SIG barrel. I reload for both calibers and have never had a problem feeding in the two years I've owned the pistol. It has flawlessly digested whatever I've fed it.

I highly recommend it, it's accurate and reliable - what more can you ask?
