new barrels short turn around
« on: April 27, 2007, 01:59:43 PM »
My son and I picked up our new barrels today.  Originally the woman told us it would be 8 - 10 weeks when we dropped them off on April 2nd, but Jennifer called me yesterday and said they were ready so we went and picked them up today.  25 days was not a bad wait at all :)  can't wait to get out and try them now.  I put a Mueller 3 x 10 x 44 sport dot on mine tonight, now I have to get a box of ammo and maybe tomorrow I can give it a try. Any tips on what .223 ammo I should get?

Oh, by the way, they are very customer friendly. It only took a few minutes for them to get everything together for us.

Its a good thing that i don't live that close to the factory , mama would have killed me some time ago .  ;D

As for ammo , if you can find some Win. White Box go with it in 45 and 55 grain HPs , if you can't find that try some of the Rem. Green Box 55s , these will be the easiest to come by and shoot very well .

Not to diminish Tony's quick turn around, but the record is close to 2 weeks including some shipping time, 18 days IIRC. That happens in the summer when it's slow at H&R. ;)

Congrats Tony, range reports manditory as usual!! ;D

Well I finally got to the range today. I sighted in the .223 using Winchester 55 grain Soft Points and Winchester 55 grain Full Metal Jackets. It was kinda windy so I only shot 50 yds.  Next time I'll bump back the full 100.   No real problems, everything went fairly well.  When I left I was consistently putting them in the 1 1/2" x on my target. Not a real feat at 50 yds but at least I know everything is working properly, no extraction problems or stuck cases.  There was a POI difference between the two loads though. BUt I think I'm going to stay with the soft points.
My son also sighted in his new .450 Marlin barrel. He has a Nikon Prostaff in 2-7 x 32 on it.  Same thing for him also, no problems.Everthing worked well ejector, scope adjustments.  It is much more fun to go to the range when everything works out.

Isn't that the truth. When I went this past weekend I forgot to take a rod with me in case of a stuck shell. Happy to report I did not need it. ;D Good luck to you and try to get out there on a calm day.
