Frontier in 7mm08 rem.
« on: April 29, 2007, 12:20:57 PM »
I am considering this rifle.  Does anyone have this particular gun, caliber combination?  I really like the compact version better but I don't like the shine the stainless has on it.  I was going to opt for the frontier since it has the target gray finish and the new LC6 trigger.  I will mount a burris fullfield II 3x9x40mm scope.  I won't be using the scout scope mounts.  Any information would be appreciated...

You should get a lighter set up with the Compact. Mine is in 308 with a Leupold M8  2.5X compact scope. It weighs in at 7.5 lbs and is a joy.

I just bought a walnut compact with an LC6 trigger. With a little digging around you should be able to find one on the shelf. Look at the back of the trigger. If it has a long groove it is an LC6. Look back a few weeks in the posts here and you will see a discussion about this and serial numbers to look for, etc. I bought the walnut because the stainless is too shiny. I think the lam stock is also too bright. I love the rifle and notice NO aditional recoil or muzzle jump. I put a Leupold 2X7X33mm which fits perfectly and offers a great field of view. The 40mm might be a little large for the gun. The frontier is NOT the same as the compact. It is substantially heavier and I feel it kinda defeats the purpose of getting this tiny gun. Also, I think the Frontier is more money because of the mount which you will not be using. Lastly...There is a post on here about compacts with stainless where somebody dulled the finish by rubbing something on it. Can't remember. A search here on "compacts" should bring it up. It was a response to one of my posts in the last year or so. I would classify my little Ruger as perfect if it had a clip and I could quiet down that gosh awful safety. Actually if I could mount a three position Savage tang on it! God Bless and Good luck!
