Leupold 2X, and Buffalo Bore or Garrett 300+ gr. hardcast.  Especially for elk.

Federal Cast Core 300g hardcast bullets, leupold 2X, or a low power variable 1.5-5X or so.
Buffalo and garrets are not cheap, though nethier are the federal "cast core." All provide hard cast bullet performance with a big .340" meplat when using WFN nose profile. The federals proved to be accurate enough in my rugers for 100+yd hunting. I think they cost about 20-$25 a box.

I`m with everyone else here, a Leuopld 2X will do all you need. For deer agood load with 240 gr. HP bullets. If your gun will shoot Remington accurately their terminal preformance is great on deer. I`ve never hunted elk but judgeing from their size compraied to deer and from the guys I know that hunt them with a rifle I would guess than anything from a 240 soft nose up would work.

There are several molds out for 44 and 500 with excellent performance; hardcast can be achieved with wheelweights; free from most tire shops as they have to pay a hasmat fee to have it removed and it's by the pound.  Use the clamp on wts and cast a bunch, then weigh, keep consistent wts and remelt light or heavy or incomplete.  The initial startup is about 2 or 3 boxes of good hardcasts and after that it's gravy.  My largest was only a 220 boar with 200gr cast in 357max at 1500fps out of 9 1/2" Dan Wesson.  He ran less than 30 ft. behind rt shoulder and through lt shoulder.  About 25 yds.
