Picked up my Encore today.
« on: April 11, 2007, 04:58:35 PM »
I'm now the proud owner of a Pro-Hunter in 25-06.  It'll be a few days before I can get some ammo made up and get to the range but I'm excited about this gun.  I'll try to send some rounds over the chrono and post'm here.  My Speer manual shows some loads with the 120 gr. bullets approaching 3000 fps, it'll remain to be seen just how fast they fly from the 15" barrel.

Well Dusty I don't read the Thompson threads very much so I didn't see the post until now.

But heck yes, anytime a man gets a new firearm, its a time to celebrate.

Congratulations and may that Encore give you a life time of fun and good shooting.

So is it a straight shooter? Are you happy you got it? Would you recommend one of the same to the rest of us?

Hey Dusty,
Congrats!!!  I'm curious about how well it shoots for you.  I tried a 15" 30-06 barrel on my encore and after about 20 rounds I knew it wasn't for me.  Then again, the best I could ever do with a pistol is make noise and scare a target...  Let us know how well it shoots for you!

Congrats again!

As previously stated, IT IS always good to hear/read about someone getting another firearm and the Thompsons are near and dear to my heart.

Most of the guys I know, in my area, shoot Contenders.  But I really would like to see your results with the 25-06 in your Encore. 8).  Sounds like a great deer/antelope setup.  Maybe a stupid question but are you going to shoot factory or load your own?

I'll be loading my own, as a matter of fact yesterday I loaded up about two dozen rounds with IMR 4350 and some 120 gr. Speer spitzer boatails.  Hopefully in a day or two I'll get to the range with the Encore and my chronograph.

Congrats on the 25.06. I have 2 frames, both SS one is for rifle and the other is for pistol. As for pistol barrels I currently have the .223 in SS and a .243 in blue. As for rifle barrels, .223, .243 and .308.
That 25.06 has gotta be a screamer. I have a Ruger in 25.06. All of my loads are for Coyotes, depending on the area I will be hunting.

Have fun, be safe and lets hear some more about how your loads fly
