what would be a good power for a scope on the s&w 500 mag, fixed in 4x,6x or var. 1.5-4.5 x32
shooting will be woods and some open fields. 50yds to about 125yds.

From what I've read on this web site the recoil of the 500 magnum is significant. Based on only this I would think that a good quality, heavy duty fixed power scope would be the option I would pick....probably 4X.

500S&W recoil is about the same as the 45-70 with mid to upper levergun loads, the 1½-4½x32 Banner would be a great choice and won't break the bank, plenty of eye relief, I've used mine on both the 45-70 and 500S&W.
