just saw a 1885 Ballard light hunter NEW listed
is this rifle made in the USA or where
are they any good?

The Ballard Rifle Company is in Wyoming, now. They are made currently to the original drawings. Very high priced. They are not a strong action even with modern materials. Black powder cartridges prevail. Google up Ballard rifles and you'll get the site.

I think the 1885 is their copy of the Winchester hiwall single shot. It is plenty strong as they chamber for everything including big magnums.

these are very high quality fire arms and are modern strength guns they come chambered for any caliber you want including magnums, up to 600nitro express.this is a very serious single shot rifel for serious shooters it it not limited to black powder pressures or cartriges
