Jarvis barrel weight ???
« on: June 10, 2007, 04:03:23 AM »
Howdy,

I recently borrowed a Jarvis underlug-mounted barrel weight for my Smith & Wesson six inch 686.  Shot a 1500 PPC course and scored 1487.  Now I have to have one of these for my own.

To sweeten my want is the fact that my last name is Jarvis, and it would be cool to have my name on the wheelgun.

A call to Jarvis Gunsmithing revealed that they do not have any and that they are no longer made.

Does anybody have one or know of one for sale.

Does anybody know if these where offered in stainless steel?  I have only seen blue ones, and would be willing to purchase blue.

Thanks for any help or knowledge you may be willing to share,

Fred (Jarvis)

I have a Jarvis underlug on my 4" 686.  It is my wife's favorite centerfire.  I had my underlug on the gun drilled and tapped because the weight kept loosening with heavy loads.  I love it.  I wish I could help you find one, but don't have a clue where to look for one.

Crabo,

Is your barrel weight stainless steel or blue?

Does it say "Jarvis" on the side?

I have located three barrel weights locally, but nobody wants to part with one.

Thanks,

Fred

Mine is stainless, but it's not going anywhere either.  My wife would kill me.  She considers it "her" gun.  I took a pancake holster and cut the stitching apart and then sewed it back to fit the gun.

I attached a picture so people will know what we are talking about.  My weight is smooth with no Jarvis engraving on the side.

Buy a Dan Wesson 357 with a Vent Heavy barrel.  Since the Dan Wesson has a flat sided underlug, any gunsmith or machinist with a mill can make a barrel weight for you.

Just an idea.
