QUALITY light-weight scope
« on: May 22, 2003, 05:05:10 AM »
I need a high quality light-weight scope for a light-weight rifle I'm putting together.  I think I have in narrowed down to leupold variX-III, Nikon Monarch and Kahles (with the 1" tube).  I want a 3x9 or similar.  What are your opinions on these three and is there any other high quality scopes that are light weight?  I would like to keep cost under $600 if possible.

The Vari-x III 2.5-8X weighs around 11 oz, the rest weigh around 13 or so.  I have two of them, one on a featherweight M70.  They are a nice scope.

I have several Nikon Monarchs in 3x-9x-40mm on several rifles and I love them.  I don't know how light you want to go, but this particular scope seems light to me.

Leupold Vari-X IIIs are about the same weight.

You might want to consider compact scopes.  Leupold makes some, and Nikon does too.  You shouldn't have a problem finding a good scope for $600 or even less.

Like Tom I would have to vote for the Leupold VX III 2.5-8. I also have one on a Winchester Featherweight M70. Mine came form Winchester with the Featherweight "shaped" McMillian fiberglass stock and the Leupold seems to fit just right.
