38-55 LeverEvolution ammo ? Performance improvements?
« on: June 13, 2007, 09:19:40 AM »
Suppose Hornady put a LeverEvolution bullet in the 38-55 Winchester round, how much of an improvement would that give  the 38-55 ?

Maybe half way between the 35 Rem and the 444.  I think the low PSI of the factory loads (something like 28,000 I think?) of 38-55 would be a real limit.  You don't find weak old guns chambered in 444 Marlin, or 35 Rem like you do for the 38-55.

Now move this up the the 375 Winchester, and now you might see a better setup.  It's loaded to 308 pressures.

Buffalo Bore loads the 38-55 to 1950 fps. It's quality ammo, and a real deer killer.

Someone posted here about a year ago about a large black bear he killed with that BB ammo.  Posted pics too.  One shot on a running bear and he did a flip flop and piled up.

Very effective.  Keep BB ammo in the 38-55 or similar load, and keep the range short, and no need for Leverevolution ammo.
