STOCK WEIGHT

can some one tell me the best way to add lots of weight to the syn. stock, or is pouring it full of lead shot the best you can do.

have not taken recoil pad off didn't realize how much room we had.
with this 450 barrel i may want to omit the sock and get all the lead i can.
i am planning to buy another stock and action or complete rifle, with heavier stock.
i the laminated heavier.

If you do add shot to the stock take an old peice of t-shirt or bed sheet and push it in first , that way you can still get more shot than the sock but if you ever have to take the butt pad off you have a way to contain the mess and it will keep the shot from getting around the bolt head .  :o

When I had a 45-70 I put a piece of copper pipe  7/8 inch outside diameter,poured molten lead in it and cut it off flush with the stock then put the recoil pad back on    hth   Doug

I use black powder round balls in mine. Little less messy than shot but you can probably get more weight in it with shot.

 Just did my BC a couple of weeks ago...took a 3/4 inch piece of copper pipe about 9" long and filled it with lead....It must be about 3 or 4 pounds. It was so heavy it stripped out one of the wood screws holding the metal butt plate on. So I took the stock off my muzzle loader and put that on..but made sure the lead tube was snug insiden the bolt hole channel this time.  Works great, but I won't be carrying it around much... Also tried a 405 grain slug at 2000 fps.....ouch....I mean OUCH...
Now I'm back down to 1750 fps and I think I'll stay there, but the extra weight off the shooting bench still helps.....Norm
