I currently use IMR 4227. Actually I started with it and have never tried anything else. I can reload .222 Rem and 6.8 SPC spitzer type bullets and .38 Special, .357 MAG, .357 Max, .44 Special. .44 Mag, .445 Supermag, .45 Colt, 38-55 WCF and 45-70 Government. I think this is rather interesting. Can anyone think of another powder that can do so many different loads? I am a newbie to reloading.

H4895 and Unique both can be used for quite a few diffrent rounds , the H4895 i use for loads from 223 up to 45/70 and the Unique is hard to beat for cast bullets in many rounds from 32 S&W up to the 45/70 .

I'll check it out. 4227 isn't the best load but it works for quite a few.

You can find a bunch of diffrent powders that will work for more than 1 or 2 rounds but they may not always be the best for a given case.

I keep anywere between 10 and 15 diffrent powders on hand at all times just for this reason . granted some are almost 20 years old and only get used for 1 cal. with 1 given bullet in 1 rifle . but others i buy 8 pound at a time .

im with stimpy on this. I dont believe in one powder does all. What you end up with is a bunch of compromise loads. If you have to do it i would think that 2400 would be more flexible then 4227. I does a little better on the low end of things. 4227 gets pretty dirty when light loaded.

Not to hijack the thread here,but does this powder burn well for you guys? I've loaded it in my 45lc and end up with the cylinders and fired shells having powder left in them. I had this same problem with the H 4227 and it was replaced by them at know cost. Win 296/H110, Unique, Clays, or Win 231 all burn away cleanly. I've tried Mag primers and tightening up the crimp but it still happens.

Any suggestions?

that actually isnt unburned powder. Its filler used in the powder. Its something that you just have to deal with using 4227. Ive allways got such good accuracy with it that i overlook it. A can of break clean will hose off a gun when im done shooting.

Don't worry about the HIJACK, in fact, I was wondering about the same thing left in my cases. I'm going to try some different loads.
