Which Barrel to Buy?

Well, I finally did it.  I just ordered my first encore (Stainless w/ composite stocks).  I have not yet ordered a barrel.  My first use for this gun will be deer hunting, close in (less than 100 yards) and carrying while scouting.  I am contemplating the 7mm-08, 7 x 57, 7-30 Waters, and .308.  The barrel length will be 20-22".  I currently hand load for several different 7mm class bolt action guns, and will hand load for this one as well.  Any comments/experiences, etc.?  I am curious as to the thoughts on rimmed versus rimless cases in this firearm.  Thanks for any help.

For me, a rimmed case is a must.  Rimmless work ok, but I just like the rim.  Any of the cartridges you picked would work fine.  You could make any of the 308 family of cases out of 307 or 356 brass to have the rim.  The 7x57 can be made out of 444 brass.  If you don't go with a VVCG or Bullberry barrel, you can have a rim cut in any factory barrel by VVCG or several other sources.  You can always use rimless cases after having the rim cut by switching extractors.

 for the uses you listed, all your choices are winners, I don't think you can go wrong with any of them.  All of those calibers are will work great in a shorter barrel and all of them are more than powerful enough for woods loafing/scouting.
