My son is looking at getting a Brittany Spaniel. I've personally had 2 Springer Spaniels, and a Black Lab. Still got the lab at 9 yrs old and sick with something that the vet is as yet unable to resolve. Either way at 9 yrs it is past time to get started with the next one. My son will be the "official owner", but we will both train and use him/her. The idea of a pointing dog is very intriguing. The temperament is very much like the Springer, if I'm correct. I really loved the Springers size and zest for hunting. My Lab is big and therefore a plodder(not necessarily bad, just different than a zesty Spaniel).
Any point/counterpoint info for me? The owner of the pups has 2 left out of the litter, a female, and a male. They are 11 weeks old. We are leaning toward a female. Reports from people I know say his dogs are first rate. I know the guy a little from sportsmans clubs that we both belong to, but I don't know him real well.
Thanks in advance
Dave
Forgot to mention - we hunt pheasants, ruffed grouse and waterfowl. Most waterfowl hunting is done either field hunting or from a boat, so the importance of a water retrieve is not real great. I believe though that among pointing breeds the Britt does very well generally, at liking water
