Stainless 270
« on: May 21, 2007, 08:54:12 AM »
I'm getting ready to buy a Stainless Handi in 270. I was hoping to get a new rifle with a little less recoil than a 30-06, but with enough stuff for Caribou out to 400 yards. I have a few of these rifles in 243 and 223 and I know most of the accuracy tricks, but I don't see a lot written about the 270 Stainless. Does anyone here have experience with these rifles? Thanks.

I've experience with customizing and hand-loading for the blued Ultra in H&R.
Very good rifle.

There's no difference tween the SS and blued models as far as how the accurate the barrels are, mine both shoot very good, but mine are both laminated stocked models, the synthetic forend of the SS 270 with be more of an issue to get to shoot well if it doesn't shoot well out of the box, it may take some experimenting with the forend stud hole and possibly semi-floating it, but it's not as user friendly as the wood or lam counterpart due to the integral spacer.

The frame of the SS model isn't stainless, it's nickel plated, just an FYI. ;)

I'm working with a 270 Ultracomp right now using the 150gr Nosler partition, it will easily shoot moa with IMR4350.
