My 870 has been sitting and not doing anything. Its a Youth model in .20 guage and I installed Speedfeed black stock/forarm on it. Then I bought a Rifled barrel for it. I also have a Wilson Plus 2 extenstion along with they're green follower and spring. I really like my 870 but I like my Steoger Coach Gun better.

I like the Seven in stainless in .308 but it doesn't come with sights. I would have factory sights installed and shoot the rifle as is for a little while. Then I would replace the stock with the factory laminate one or unless someone can provide me with a custom stock maker (i like the look of stainless with a grey/black lam stock)

What should I do? I will shoot the .308 more than a shot gun. I plan on reloading for it too. Also, scoping it later on. What do I do?!

The Model 7 is a great little gun and light to carry. Go for it.

"sell a gun" .... I've heard of that concept but have never clearly understood quite what it means.
You don't mean that you would take money and the gun would have to leave its home, do you?  Think of the trauma.  Also, the model 7 would know it was coming into a very dysfunctional situation where it may be cast aside at any moment.  It would probably not be able to settle down and give you its best accuracy.
Don't you have some kids or a wife that you could sell off?

I've been in this situation a few times and ALWAYS regretted selling any gun.  I'm currently selling an 870 rifled barrel, like you have, since it just wasn't being used.  I love my current deer rifle, which your .308 would probably be, and just don't have a need for the 870 rifled barrel anymore.  However, I wouldn't get rid of the entire shotgun. Believe you me, you will wish you had it 1, 2, or 5 years down the road.
Sell off the barrel and any accessories you just won't use and use that extra $$ to justify the .308 purchase....and the extras you'll put into that rifle.

I know what you mean. But they've been making this shot gun since, I think, the mid fifties. Its not going anywhere. If I sell it, I can always buy another one. But then there's that very unique noise when you rack it and you'll never get from anything else. So..I still don't know what do to. Maybe I'll sell the ribbed barrel and factory stock/forearm. The ribbed came with a choke that is such a pain to clean and I don't shoot ducks or skeet. Keeping the rifled barrel makes more sense. Then put the money in for the Model 7.

See, this all started when I sold my Remington 700 Police in .308. Two slight problems: I bought a Pelican case for it and the gun is supplied without sights. Thats where I went wrong. The gun was dead on accurate. It would blow apart anything I put the cross hairs on ( bowling pins are my favorite). But then I got tired of lugging that hugeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee case around. I had to drop the seats in my truck to fit it in. Then I had to drive about 45 min to a 100 yard range that I didn't really like. Then I would always hit traffic coming home. The range I always to go is about 20 min away but its an 30 yard indoor range.  But most importantly, it didn't have iron sights. I'm not knocking it, it was never supposed to have iron sights on it in the first place. But I don't really need a scope on my rifles because I don't have vast amounts of land to shoot on and the 100+ outdoor range is soooooooooooo far from me. But the Model 7 has sights on the blued of course it doesn't come on the stainless model. The 7 is short and compact. It has the very familar 700 short action in my favorite .308. I can set it up like a mini 700 police.

Maybe if I go to the store and hold the model 7 , maybe I'll be able to think clearer. Talk to you guys later.

beemanbeme,

I haven't laughed that hard in a long time. I know personally I hate it when they follow you home because all they want is a good home.

As for selling your 870; it sounds like you have a decent amount of money in after market goodies. If you are trading it in I don't think you will get nearly as much back as you have but in to it. If you are selling it outright to just a person I still don't know that you will get out of it what you have in it. If you are willing to take a loss on it and want the model 7 go for it, but you may end up regretting it later.
