30-06 case with .243 bullet?

Is there a cartridge that is a 3006 case necked down to hold a .243 bullet?  If so what is it called? Is it a worthwhile conversion?  Of course I know the 243 winchester is the 308 necked down. Just got me to thinking this may have been done with the 3006 case as well. Does anyone know?

I've heard of a 6mm-06.  I'd expect reloading manufacturers offer dies for it.  I don't have any experience with it, but it seems like a lot of powder behind a little .243 bullet.  I guess you get .240 Weatherby performance without having to buy the expensive brass, ammo, or Mark V action.

It is the 6mm-06 and I've heard it's a real barrel burner. But the 6mm-284 gets lots of attention without the barrel complaints. Don't have any idea why as the cases are about the same size. I know RCBS makes the dies and would guess others do also. The only loading data I've ever seen fo it is in P.O. Ackley's handbooks. Probally "Steve's pages" has it as well, he seems to have everything.

Yea it is the 6mm '06 and last article I read a guy used one to shoot an antelope.  Was pushing an 85gr Barnes TSX around 3400 if I remember correctly.  The 'lope never knew what hit him.

 i  have a   6mm 06  imp.   28 in. van horn  barrel    70  gr.  bullets  over 4000 fps  and a real tack  driver , still  doing  load  development

Was just reading an article (somewhere?) about the 6mm-06 and it seems the 30-06 case necked down to 6mm actually has MORE room in it than the 240 Weatherby.

So from that I'd assume you could better the 240 W, IF you found it necessary.

Doesnt a 25.06, .270 and 30.06 all use the same case?

.240 Gibbs.  Gibbs had several wildcat cartridges based on the .30-06 case.  The cases were blown out, had short necks about 1/4" long, and sharp shoulders.  A friend has one that we used extensively in the '60's for woodchucks.  It shot light 6mm bullets at about 3800 fps.
