For those that have a handi rifle, has anyone spent more for  a new replacement stock than what they paid for a new Handi Rifle ?  Anyone put a nice Maple or Walnut stock on their rifle?

There's only one source for nice aftermarket stocks, our sponsor, GSI. There are several here that have them, look at the "Let's see some Handis" link in the FAQs and Help sticky, 3 pages of pics! H&R now offers a nice thumbhole stock too!! H&R has also offered checkered fiddleback maple stocks in the past.

For a delux semi inletted stock set, it is easy enough to spend three times the amount of money of what a Handi costs. Nice wood is not cheap anymore.

I recently was quoted $175 plus shipping for a semi inletted unfinished Ruger#1 forearm. I managed to get a factory forearm for $155 plus shipping.

There is another source for really nice stocks..I do believe at least 1 forum member had a set done by them a while back..so they do have the pattern for the Handi's ...Like Fred said...good wood isn't cheap..and these guys are pretty expensive...but make some of the best stock sets I've seen..http://www.wenig.com

Matt,

We have a NEF Handi-Rifle SB2 right hand thumbhole pattern.  For a machine inletted "do-it-yourself" thumbhole style stock and forend in laminated birch is $260.00 and standard grade walnut the buttstock is $190.00 and if you need a matching forend in walnut it is $40.00.  This may also require a special drawbolt which could run $45.00.  Shipping/handling charges are additional.

Thank you, "

Well...I do remember someone getting a full laminated set..and the cost for them was over $400 dollars..It was before I got my set from GSI...I had talked to them at Wenig and ask about their different woods..Someone else had already sent their Handi to them and was how they got their pattern for it...There was a photo of the stock set on here at 1 time showing the set...I'll keep looking..but I think it isn't on here anymore..Here is the one reference I did find to it from 04' and when I started really looking to see what was out there...I had replaced my Survivor stocks with some cinnamon lams.....they were nice but I really wanted something a little nicer...http://www.gboreloaded.com/forums/index.php/topic,32761.0.html

Here's one other reference to an old H&R Talk member who did it as well...he may have been the original one to do it...http://www.gboreloaded.com/forums/index.php/topic,35332.0.html
