Howdy : I am wondering about the 45 redhawk, I am considering trading my 629 stainless 44 for one locally... they are asking 650 for the ruger in mint condition .. Also how would you compare the Redhawk to the blackhawk in 45 colt... I could be persuaded to fore go the redhawk and purchase a blackhawk ... what do you prefer : about 5 inch or 7.5 inch for the 45 colt.
I am proficient with both single and double action revolvers for many years.
never compared red to black hawks.. always had six inch to 7.5 inch long barrels with exception one four inch that was a little hard on old eyes..
does anyone think that I ought to just trade off the smith and save up to get a freedom arms in 454 and load it down.. or 460 or 475  and load it down etc.
I would want it to still be as handy as the 7.5 in. rugers.  I had the FA 454 but only shot factory loads -- I am now back to reloading.
thanks in advance

wow your swinging all over the place! Would i trade a 629 for a redhawk. NO WAY but i like 629s there both good guns but unless your looking to shoot real heavy loads id take the smith over the ruger. A blackhawk is again a totally differnt gun and theres no way to tell you wether to buy one over the other as its a matter of individual taste. Would i rather have a FA then any of the above. You bet your sweet *** i would. But again if you have to ask your probably not really ready for a a big bore gun and may not feel it was worth it when you check your wallet. Do you reload? If you dont theres no way your ever going to master anything bigger then a 44 mag and even then i doubt it unless your a wealthy man. What id do if i were you and dont reload is keep what you have and buy a reloading set up and start really getting intimate with that smith. Ive yet to see a smith 44 that wasnt a shooter and you might be trading in on a gun that shoots less accurately then the one you have. If you cant afford to buy reloading gear sell the smith but a super blackhawk and take the rest of the money and buy an inexpensive realoading setup.

DO NOT TRADE OFF THAT 629! As stated previously, the Smith will be the better of the 2.

If you want a 45LC, buy a Blackhawk. I'd buy it in Stainless with a 7.5" barrel.

Don't trade the 629. I have 5 1/2" Redhawks in .44 and .45, a 5 1/2" SS SBH and 5 1/2" SS NMBH in .45. I like them all. It would be difficult to pick only one. But which ever I would pick, I wouldn't sell/trade anything else to get it. I hear too many stories of sellers remorse.

The smith stays. You are all right, come to think about it it is just too good to let it go..get more instead.. fabulous advice..
Used Sbh 44 added to cabinet. Hope I can shoot it as well as I did way back in '73...
I do reload and shoot a lot of 44... just needed the single action back in stable probably..
thanks for good advice..
sometimes I just gotta get another one... but dont need to drop the smith to do it...someone just brightened my day and made all things possible...
It was meant to be that I stopped that train of thought ( runaway train...I guess )

I have a gun addiction that is insatiable... that is ok making a bad move is not ok.
thanks again.. I feel better now.

Wise choice. I can never get rid of a DA Smith. I just keep getting more of them! (Of course, I've got enough SA Rugers to keep me happy, too.)

Good advise guys!
