New scope for 7 X 444
« on: June 10, 2007, 11:19:22 AM »
Just ordered a Bushnell Trophy 2 X 6 for this 7 X 444 Contender. When it gets here I have to play musical scopes with my other pistols and resight them in. The current scope goes on a DW 357 SuperMag and that scope goes on a DW 445 Supermag. Looks like weeks of getting ready for deer and elk in the fall ! ;D

I think that's the idea. tough job but somebody's got to do it. Actually, might be tougher on the 445 damn that gun kicks with full power loads.

No, I didn't invent it. It started out life as a 7 X 30 Waters and was converted by "he who can't be mentioned on this forum". Yes, it shoots like a house on fire, upgraded the scope to take advantage of the extra range. It is a true 200 yd antelope / mulie cartridge. It was a toss up between this and the 30 cal version. Found a 7 X 30 before I found a 30/30 to convert. Very pleased with downrange performance and the cases are easy to form.

Forgot to add, it's on the par with a 309 JDJ

Please do NOT tell MY old 7x30 14" barrel that it AIN'T a 200 yard deer gun! it might start to cry and get all rusty on me!

OK, I won't tell it. The 7 X 444 drives a 120 gr spitzer to 25XX fps over 43.0 grs of IMR 4895. Which is 150 to 200 fps faster from a 14" barrel. See it gets there faster so the antelope / deer must be deader right? Anyway the real reason was to get a custom throat and get rid of the TC factory misallgnment. I fired it before conversion and after. It is much better after the factory throat was redone.
