How do you rate the quality and shooting abilities of the BRF line of Revolvers. They look nice in their web site pictures but I have never handled one.

in time you shall know all things, grasshopper..
I can certainly tell they have a large following of satisfied owners and for detractors, there are some that prefer to stay with other brands instead. as a shopper I feel it is a great deal at that price range if what you want is a big caliber large framed handgun. the big smiths seem to be similar in their following : some really happy folks who own the 500 x frame and some who do not want it..
I have not had one but wonder the same things as you do. I tend to think that those that like them love them and for a whole lot less money than some other makes, like FA. once you get into reallly good guns, my understanding now is that you get something for most of your expenditure
and any of the better guns you see here from Ruger for instance through FA and beyond up the scale of cost... they will all perform wonderfully for you either out the box or after some little tweaking whtaever to fit your likes. If my price range was just under a thousand, and I wanted an overbore or rifle bullet revovler : BFR; if I wanted a 45 colt or 44 mag : a used ruger $400 at most if patient, ( or new but used is the thin$g ) I saw the bfrs priced at 800 in a small gushop posting yesterday..take it home for 750 I bet ..
somone who actually shot it intead of shopped it will probably chime in here directly this is a great site for information and help..at least on some posts LOL

I wandered the same ,and took the plunge.  I loved the FA's but could not afford.  I picked up my BFR in 454 on a clearance bargin and could not pass it up.  The grips are Uncle Mikes and are too big for my hands.  The front sight is plastic and the rear is Millet w/o white outline.  I figured for the money I saved I would chop barrel change grip and redo sights.  Problem is the darned thing shot so good I started thinking of keeping it as is except scope it.  I put a cheap swift 4x and it has held up very well with 300 gr XTP factory 3boxes worth.  I,m staying around 1" sometimes under at 25yds.  I did get a hogue monogrip for it, ouch!  It does not cover backstrap and I can only shoot about 5 rounds that way.  Had to get a glove, but for hunting it fits well and I won't be worrying about recoil.  From all I have seen so far I did ok.  For a plinking round I shoot 45lc with 200gr swc's at 1000fps with excellent accuracy, .75"all day.  I do think my trigger could use some work, because through the 4x I can see the crosshairs shift while I'm squeezing.  I just started shooting at 100 and so far my best group was 4.5".  Dead deer, but I'm no handgunner.  That was with bags.  I want to also practice with sticks for support.  The revolver is quite heavy and hard to shoot unrested at any distance.  At least for me.  Hope this helps.

I had one and wasnt impressed. I have been told that some in that era got out that were lacking in fit and finish. Mine surely was. I was more discusted with there service dept and attitude then anything. Heres my opinion now. If it were me i wouldnt buy one but im soured on them. But if a guy absolutely had to have a big bore and theres no way he can ever come up with the money for a FA or a custom there the only car on the lot. If you buy one understanding that your not getting a FA and theres no way you could for half the price there not a bad deal. They may not have the fit or finish that a FA has but for the most part there excellent shooters. If you figure what you have to pay to have a ruger rechambered to another caliber youd be into as much money anyway and the rugers cant be rechambered into most of the calibers the bfrs can be. If you understand what your buying is a basic 5 shot gun and not a custom grade gun you will be happy. Personaly i think they are missing the boat by not making some factory 4 5/8s guns but thats my opinion and like i said even if they did i wouldnt be a customer anyway. So basicaly my opinion is that your getting a basic 5 shot in a big caliber in a package thats to me comparable to that one in ten ruger that slips out fit right. A little better then your average ruger and your getting it for about 800 bucks which is probably a bargin. Just dont go anywhere where you will handle and shoot a FA or a good custom as they will have you wanting to sell and upgrade. Now let the bfr guys tear me up!!!
